We are a pre-IPO, 100+ person casual gaming company seeking permanent employees to join our San Francisco headquarters (SOMA).

Job Description

iWin is seeking engineering talent with experience leading high-volume games, preferably Facebook social games or Mobile Social Games in a Flash/AS3 (or Java/iOS if mobile) technology stack.

Your individual work will be focused primarily on the Frontend (Flash/AS3), but you and your team will work closely with a restful Java backend.

We are expanding our capacity to create new social games, and we are looking for experienced development talent to form and lead those teams.

You will provide technical and project leadership for a team of 5-6 people working on two sister products. You and your team will own two games, design and develop new features, scale to millions of users, enhance functionality and generally push the envelope to delight your users.

You will be doing design and implementation hands-on, and work hand-in-hand with Product Managers to prioritize and manage a fast paced social game on Facebook. You must be passionate and push for the best features, the best technology, and the best from your teammates.

Job Responsibilities Include

• Management and technical leadership of 4-6 developers to create a series of games on both Facebook and Mobile.
• Share backend design and coding responsibilities for new social/casual games or components
• Agile hands-on design and implementation of new features or innovative improvement of existing features
• System planning, component re-use and refactoring for continued growth
• Development of tools for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of core systems
• Performance optimization and tuning
• Work closely with front-end engineers, who expose your brilliance to our user community
• Work closely with Product Management and Game Designers to build the most creative, viral and successful social games in the market.
• We expect roughly the following time split:
  • Coding/Hands-On Development: 50%
  • Technical Design/Specifications: 15%
  • Project Leadership: 25%
  • People Management: 10%

Experience

You should have done one or more of the following professionally (no, you don’t need to have done all of them)

• You have lead teams of 3-5 previously, including assigning tasks, being primary Product Management contact, driving deliverables and meeting deadlines.
• You are strong in the Flash/AS3 stack
• You are competent with JavaScript
• You have actually built and published a game
• Have experience with Hidden Object Games
• You have worked on any large (millions of active users) production consumer-facing web sites
• You have experience creating social or community software
• You have real Facebook application or integration experience
• You have worked on production REST based systems, and have an understanding of proper REST and services architecture (note, if you actually are a backend star that is a bonus but not required)

Professional Skills and Personal Qualities

Required:

• BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent real-world experience)
• 2+ years of real-world experience building production Java/J2EE applications (Spring, Hibernate and similar Open Source) on Linux/UNIX
• Flexibility, resourcefulness and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with business driven dates and long lists of features
• Have game experience, have built and released a game. Most interesting are Hidden Object Games or Games on Facebook or iOS.
• Good Object Oriented design skills, including best practices, patterns, algorithms and data structures
• Moderate db experience including schema design, query tuning etc
• Positive person who cares about both your end users and the craft of software development
• Experience owning design/development of a functional area or small product

Appreciated:

• Advanced MySQL or alternative datastore experience
• System performance or scaling experience
• Skill with Front-End technologies: JavaScript, AJAX, Flash/AS3
• Social Network API or integration experience
• Web-scale development experience with a consumer-oriented website in a startup environment
• Work experience with Agile Development (Scrum, XP, etc) and test first development is advantageous
