!!!!!!!!FEATURED ROOMS!!!!!!!!!

I love the new Halloween items, I was so excited yesterday to create my room that I spent more opals then I meant to. Today I thought I would look through the Featured Rooms and notice Halloween rooms on display. So I checked to see if maybe mine was there. It wasn't and I am disappointed because I've been on this site since Dec. 2008 and have never had one pic displayed. People compliment my rooms quite often so I don't understand. I have read what they say about Featured Rooms, but don't buy it because some of the rooms featured include up to 8 of the same persons pics and I have even viewed rooms that are in disarray and unfinished. I'm sure I'm not just speaking for myself, so other's with the same dilemma need to speak out as well please. I feel this is unfair treatment, I would like people to be able to view creations that I am quite proud of!!! Thank you for listening and I hope it is considered.

Yeah , lady i agree i hve been on quite sometime as well. and have a few rooms that I am also proud of.. Also have seen rooms by many others that i feel deserve some recognition too. not to take away from those that are featured for there are many great ones there.But it sure would seem a bit more fair if they were rotated more often..allowing others their chance in the spotlight...

I wish there was a way to explain the software issues on the server to help you understand. Despite the "beauty" of your designs, making it to the "Recently Updated" page of MEET OTHERS, which is the feed for Featured Rooms, proves ellusive to many. There is no algorithm to explain the discrepancies in which rooms get picked. Another thing to bear in mind, once a user's room got chosen for the "Recently Updated" page back in April of this year, no matter what room that person is working on now, the original floor or floors magically appear on the top page. That's why my kitchen is on the top page so often. I haven't touched it for weeks but when I work on another room, there it is; therefore an attachment to the username for the software is apparent.

The software does not care how pretty or complex your rooms are; it is using the code programmed into it to keep cycling rooms. You can listen to all the "theories" but not one explains every room's appearance on the "Recently Updated" page. Getting upset about it won't change anything and because it is not a high priority issue, iWin is not going to pull a software engineer working on a revenue generating project to work on an internal vanity glitch. It sounds cold but it is true. Have you used the SHOWCASE threads in Hotel iWin Lobby so people get to see your rooms? At this point in time, it's the only way you're going to get exposure for your rooms.

As Marybeth has tried to explain in this thread (and a few others I think), it has little to do with how much was spent or anything else for that matter! It's a software glitch that Iwin isn't inclined to work on right now; it it seems that the featured rooms belong to people who are closer to the penthouse than you are, it's likely because some of us have been around longer and were part of the pool back when the initial code was done to set the featured rooms. It's a case of timing; hopefully Iwin will fix the problem eventually but until then, there is no point getting worked up about it. Use the SHowcase threads to show off your spaces! We'll all gladly visit; that's where I go when I'm curious to see what people have come up with for various room styles. You get great ideas just looking around...have fun! Spread the word - ignore Featured rooms & use Showcase thread!

Yeah I think it's not fair that the same rooms get featured.

I have noticed changes over time, though-
We are seeing way less of the iWin staffers and I have found some of my friends getting featured!

I was one of the 'chosen ones' to have a room featured early, no matter what I do on other floors it is always my Retro Rec Room...
and because I was featured I got a lot of visits, so I showed up there(most visited) and a lot of people friended me so I showed up there(most friends).

If you really want to get featured, the one way we have found that works is to get ALL your friends and ALL their friends to visit you...multiple times
...it takes a lot of effort because the bar keeps rising, but with team work the easiest category to break into is most visited today.

It is WAY easier to go on featured room forums and invite visitors.

I believe you are talking about me. There is no need to have your message in capitalization. I understand your frustrations because I was in the same boat as you all were when I started this hotel thing. This is also not the first time I explained about how your rooms can go to featured rooms. The experiment I had was started from my friend Hartoglass. She is an amazing woman with an amazing mind. She had a theory and I executed it! I had the same question too. "How can I get my room be to featured"?. She replied by telling me that most of the rooms she'd seen was over 10,000 opals. That was way back a year ago. I don't know how much is the minimum since a lot of the guests are dumping so much opals in their one room. Just look at rose or lata. Their rooms are way over 10, 000 opals. But as for the field with just me, those rooms are again experimental to see if it will be featured in recent update or most visited. I did find out that my room stayed in most visited because before I changed decor of that room, it had been visited by so many people that it stayed in that category. For example, my first floor which hotmima had given as an example, that room used to be my kitchen and dining room (the room had over 10,000 opals). I transfered all the items to the 5th floor. But before the transfer, it took me awhile to see if my 1st floor will stay in the most visited. Which it did! .... In that note, I hope I have clarified my point and you are satisfied. I wish I could be like Dex who is very good with words. I'm not much in grammar, so I don't know if I have explained everything in full and with understanding. I do hope your rooms will be in features because then, i can copy all of you. LOL and LMAO. Let's all have fun decorating and enjoy every minute of life! So let's all take a deep breath and see if we can get through this in a civilized manner! I'm a lover not a fighter. Second I would like to thank everyone for the support on this matter. And third I appreciate the explaination although it would be better understood in laymans term (we are not all computer whizzes.) Also I did not appreciate the VANITY dig it was a little unprofessional and untrue. I do not wish to be Featured just to show off my creativity, but happen to enjoy the friendships obtained on this site and it's a way to meet new people, get fresh ideas for other room and be complimenting to other's on their works of art!!! I appreciate the input and opinions of all, but let's put the stream back in the teapot Girls. I do know of someone that had this issue a few months back and was Featured shortly there after. As Dex mentioned above, you can find the "SHOWCASE YOUR . . ." topics under the Hotel iWin Lobby forum which you can click on from the Forums Home page. Simply scroll down the list of forums on the left, click on "Hotel iWin Lobby" and you will see the Showcase Your Individual Room, under which there are subcategories to which you can post, depending on what category you want your room listed under. I don't think the "vanity" reference was to a person but more referring to the internal glitch about a "vanity" feature...I tried a layman's explanation a little after MaryBeth's posting but I guess I didn't do such a great job of it since it's still no clearer to anyone apparently...sorry. Anyway, hope to see everyone's rooms listed in the Showcase threads...always looking for ideas to play with...now to go check out some rooms. Let's see, I think I'll start with yours ladyjanew!

That's what I'm thinking since the Powers that Be as you call them ( I like it!) don't seem to be inclined to deal with it - Featured rooms wall = just something so we can admire our great work = vanity = no money coming in for it = nobody assigned to fix it. That's what I get from Marybeth's answer in her previous posts...Have I got it right?

But to be clear, I don't really use the Featured rooms page so it doesn't really bother me if they don't fix it; but since it is bothering a fair number of Iwin clients judging by the # of posts on the subject, you'd think they might consider at least tweaking it a little or just taking it off so it's not there to complain about.

OK....Let's get some explanations and observations from the fallout here. First of all. expressing your point of view without slamming someone else is nothing to apologize for; it's what the forum is for. As far as I can see, you're commentary in this thread is not controversial nor anywhere near flaming as other verbiage could be perceived. You've stated your case clearly, rationally and calmly.

Second, sorry I do tend to get technical because it's my background and I apologize. Instead of making it clearer, I made it muddier. So here goes. iWin has in it's employ software engineers, analysts, and technicians, who work on games, applications such as the hotel, the Game Manager, payment portal, the forum, Private Messaging, Customer Support Center structure, graphic displays, etc., Quality Assurance software engineers - make sure everything works together, games perform properly, etc., and internal systems such as virus protection, accounting/billing, server maintenance, payroll, etc. Just like any company they have a budget based on revenue. Seeing as the economy tanked in 2008 and is slowly recovering, iWin is doing just what we are doing in these times -- spending dollars wisely and effectively. iWin is going to make sure the wages they pay their technical people will result in income for their company. If an application or free game is working but not perfectly, its troubleshooting and tweaking will take a backseat for revenue generating projects.

Now, the online party games and the meet others pages are examples of non-revenue generating games and applications which require such tweaking. These two items are working but not in the fashion originally intended. No matter the reason for their malfuctioning, iWin is not going to pull technical personnel off of revenue generating projects to repair them....period.

The Featured Rooms window on the Game Manager & Web Site is a cycling of the rooms which appear on the Recently Updated page of Meet Others. It is obvious what might have held true when one thousand rooms were being decorated in the hotel is not working now that more than 6K rooms are online. We were never told exactly how the software is programmed to work; what criteria causes it to chose one room over another. Like I said previously, we can only formulate theories and what has been "guesstimated" by users does not hold true for every room's appearance on the Recently Updated page. Even if we did know, it doesn't change a thing. The software IS picking room thumbnails (reduced images of fullsize rooms), roughly 150 thumbnails cycle through the Featured Room portal on the Game Manager & Website; therefore, TO IWIN, nothing is wrong with the software. What makes this a "vanity" issue has to do with the vocal displeasure of users on HOW the software is picking rooms for display. The software is not picking the room by merit because it is purely a mechanical process. And, NO, iWin is not appeasing anyone who voices displeasure with this software and adding their rooms to the mix -- they don't have the time. So whether it is fair or unfair how the software picks rooms, until iWin has a software engineer it is willing to release to work on the software, the Recently Updated page will remain as is. And I believe before this issue is tackled, the online games will be repaired first.

Realizing this situation early on, I created the SHOWCASE YOUR series of threads so hotel guests can share their room designs with others. Here's the index thread: SHOWCASE YOUR: INDIVIDUAL ROOMS ~~START HERE~~. Many people have been using these threads to solicit room visitors and while it is not a substitute for being on public display, it is all we can do as users until iWin repairs the software.

Hi Everyone. I to have tried to figure out the featured room secret and got no where. For a long time I never had even one of my rooms featured. Now why that changed, your guess is as good as mine. For some reason there came a day when it seemed like all of them were featured, and for no reason. But let me assure all of you. It has NOTHING to do with talent. Of that I am convinced. I am proud of some of my rooms, but talent or the amount of opals had nothing to do with them getting featured. I change my rooms around all the time and it doesn't seem to matter what I do, they are still featured. I have had totally empty rooms while remodeling and still they were featured. So, like Dex said, the software has no idea what is in that room. I agree that everyone should have a chance. There are some awesome rooms out there that have never been featured. Rooms that deserve it a lot more than mine or many others which are also featured. I am not complaining that mine are featured.I would be lieing if I said I wasn't happy that they are because I have made some great friends because of it. But I agree everyone needs to have their turn. My rooms are no better tan anyone else's and everyone deserves their day in the spotlite. So hang in there and use the showcase thread. I go there a lot. You all are great and have great talent, so don't get discouraged because they are not featured. Software is dumb and has no eye for design. It doesn't know a good room if it sees it. But everyone who goes to the showcase does. You don't need a lot of opals or featured to have a great room, and many of you do have awesome rooms. I'm not tryin to single anyone out but as I said, the Iwin system will continue to feature a room one it's up on the category. From my own experience, when I left for Australia for 2 wks, I did not see any of my rooms in any category because I was not tryin to update any of my rooms or try to arrange or design a room. I was logging in to see any messages and to view any new featured rooms. but as soon as I got back, I rearrange my items or redesigned a room, that room will update itself in the featured room "Recently Updated" because it captured it before. Any rooms that I had up in the recent update feature will then either go to most visited or most friends because it had picked up many users in that category. I don't know if that made sense. But to make my point across, try it yourself, those who are on the featured rooms to not try updating or designing or rearranging their rooms for just 2 days and see what I mean. Again this was a theory and I have done it and have concluded that it is true. Sorry if I have offended anyone by giving out names. It was an example and I'm sorry I said the names of lata and rose. I guess that was bad of me to give that example.

In my case, I would have to stop decorating any room in the hotel because no matter the room I'm working on, my kitchen bumps to the main page. I recall this very topic in the forums once before and others experience what I do, too. The conclusion was, we're not going to stop decorating rooms because of this malfunction.

As I said, for example your kitchen had so many guests comin in to visit that that room will stay on the "most visited". If you don't touch that room but touch the other rooms, it will still pop up on that "most visited room but not on recently updated. Just look on that category and see what I mean. I have all my most visited room even though I don't touch the ones with nothing in it or hardly any decorations in it. This is because it had been registered as "most visited" before.

OK...I guess I didn't explain myself correctly...again, old age is a killer. There are a number of us, for whatever reason, have certain rooms constantly displaying on the Recently Updated pages even though we no longer touch anything in those rooms. In my case, it is my kitchen on the 5th floor. I can work on any room but 5 and my kitchen will jump to the first position on the Recently Updated page when I start work on a new floor or redecorate an existing room. Which means, the only way for those of us to "fall off" the Recently Updated page, would be to stop decorating all together. And because our rooms are constantly on the Recently Updated pages they are visited a great deal by new people exploring the hotel which also causes our rooms to remain high on the Most Visited list. This is the crux of the software problem that needs to be reprogrammed.

And like lata said, decorating in the hotel is the greatest appeal of the site for many of us, so not decorating the rest of our rooms or refurbishing our rooms so we drop off of a badly programmed display page is not in the realm of possibility. It's what drew us here in the first place. We do agree it is totally unfair in that it does not paint an accurate picture of all the rooms in the hotel but it's up to iWin to repair the faulty software not have users cease a pleasurable activity.

don't even get me started on featured rooms....there is so much really creative work that never gets displayed.....everyone should get a chance....i know of 2 people that have had their rooms featured every single day for months now....the rooms are the same....not a change to them....and then you have those who get all off their rooms featured all the time....why don't you give EVERYONE a chance???????????

I agree... the selection process makes no sense at all. I was one of the original / early hotel members & sometimes a room of mine shows... sometimes none do. I have on occasion had almost all my rooms shown at one time. However I have also gone up 3 floors and decorated (sometimes spending large chunks of opals) without so much as a flash of one of my rooms. Personally I think that if they sould set it up so that on a regular basis when you buy newly released item(s) that your room gets listed in the newly updated rooms. Whether it automatically changes once a day or once an hour I think this would be a fair way to select rooms to be shown. That way no matter who you are or what floor you are on, how much you have spent, etc it will not be the deciding factor in who gets shown & who doesn't. If you buy something new then your room is featured... period, end of discussion, cut and dried, no ifs and or buts! Everyone deserves a chance to be featured... but in the meantime it is best to use the "SHOWCASE YOUR _____________" to have more visiters.

Hi everyone, Ive been hoping this topic would be brought up, and looking forward to speaking out. First i hope no one thinks I'm one of the persons hogging the boards. I will admit i get so frustrated seeing the same persons rooms displayed, sometimes even up to six times on one page. I started to take a closer look as to how one's room keep changing over and over. By simply moving one item from one side of the room to another, to me doesnt seem like they have updated anything.
Out of my frustrastions I have purposely updated a room, just to bump them off the board or slowly down off the board.

I could understand if someone is actually making changes to there room, but to me and im sure many others this isnt the case with one paticular individual.
I really get excited when a new room has popped up, a new face etc...I think its sad when we are all aware theres a problem with the boards already, yet someone takes advantage of the unfair situation. (but thats just my opion)

Hi everyone, guess (until lately) I am one of the HOGS. Definetly not on purpose! Ladyjanew-- you are my best friend & I would gladly give you all the places on "featured" Most visited" & the rest. I have been on featured since I came in. I had played for a long time before learning of hotel. So I came in & blew the bundle. BAM there I was- That room has been featured ever since. I have taken everything out-- it was still there! Just to check I bought alot of high priced items in one room. Then put them in storage. That afternoon I checked. There I was Featured in my bikini - no floors walls or anything. I do not like to "play" so much anymore. I checked the system again last wk. Moved 1 item fraction of inch on every fl. Looked at most visited that nite-- 17 rooms there. The biggest prob, is all the kids come to seeyou. I love kids-- but these are not the loving kind! So anyone that wants the spot & all that comes with it-- You are welcome with a great big smile! This is not said in anger & I hope it's not taken as such. Just another glitch I would like to see fixed! I also would like to see what the fresh minds are offering us!!

Is there a place we can enter a room Or person that we think is exceptional?? I have seen some killer rooms--no pun intended-- & would love to share. One room was devided into 5 ---Awesome!!

Wolfdove, you and I have been good friends for way too long to let something as trivial as this put a wedge between us. You are not the one that put your rooms on the Featured site.Actually I appreciate your imput, it gives me a new perspective and I am couldn't have imagined it would attract children that intend to annoy or berate people, I have experienced it a couple times in on my message wall without being Featured, I immediately click ignore. Some of the little ones on iwin are sweet hearts, I have one that I've added to my friends list long ago, have spoken to her Mother to and enjoy there conversation. My biggest frustration is when i visit my own rooms and find items or people out of place and i keep having to fix it all the time to put it in it's place. That's the reason why my rooms keep goin to recent update even if the room hasn't changed at all. There are times, i have completely changed the room and the old picture will still be on the featured rooms. I like to make changes as well, and like you all said, it's a glitch and only iWin can fix it. Things can't be helped but we can go around those obstacled, that is why Dex and the other iwin guests have put up a off topic categories where guests can showcase their rooms. {Which is a great idea by the way}! It is sad that we don't get to see those who really need a chance to feature their rooms because i know, I was on the same situation before. But you know, if you already like decorating your rooms, playin the games, and chatting with people either thru the online games or leaving messages on other people's board, this will help you as well because those guests will come and check you out too! ..... I'm not mad about all this, but I was a little frustrated at first about a comment earlier on, i guess i'm not so good either bringing up other people's name on a previous replies I had. But now we all know why we keep seeing the same people over and over again on the recently updated even if we hardly changed anything. (it's because of GLITCHES) Point blank, right thru the target! The final answer is GLITCHES! Well, I guess I said my peace! LOL! I'm just explainin and no, I'm not mad at anyone. I hope you guys don't think I'm vain or anything else? Just to make a point here. I don't know who this reference is to, however I am in my rooms every day and as mentioned already, "objects move" I put them back. That is all it takes to keep you on the recently updated list. As many of you know I have lots of animated objects in my rooms which are continuously moving out of position. I for one am not going to just let them wander and ruin the looks of my room just to avoid being on the updated list. So yes it does appear as though I haven't changed a thing because techniquely I haven't. I just put them back where they belong, and I will continue to do so.

The very first thread message has a list of room types created by guests in the hotel. Each title is a link to that title's thread. Just click on the title and you'll go to that thread where you can enter your room number or link and comments. Enjoy your visitors.

I HAVE SPENT OVER 150 OPALS LIKE THEY SAY TO IN ORDER TO GET ROOM FEATURED. I'M WONDERING WHY I CAN'T HAVE MY 14TH FLOOR FEATURED?

i totally agree with hotmimma....i have submitted a ticket on this....and the reply has been that IWIN has no control over it....that the rooms are selected mechanically......anyhow.....there has to be a person behind this "robot" so get to work......give everyone a chance.....stop featuring the same rooms over and over.....there is plenty of talent out there....i have a friend who has great rooms and none of her rooms get featured......make it where everyone gets at least one room featured at some point or another instead of one person having 10 rooms featured at the same time.....and give everyone a chance....i see some people that have had the same old room featured for months now.....not very entertaining.....c'mon IWIN u can do better than that......we know you have the money!!!

Please read the thread comments previously posted; you will see that this has been discussed and explained. It has to do with a coding problem in the software which populates the Recently Updated page. You can read MaryBeth's explanation for the tribulations with this page all over the forum but particularly in this thread on Page 2, Seventh from the top. This topic is in the forum more than a dozen times. If you would have used Search iWin.com, it would have been clear, there is something awry. Dee, Volunteer Forum Moderator

I've gone looking through the Featured Rooms pages in the last few days and did notice a lot of new names I hadn't seen there before so maybe something is starting to work? I've had 2 rooms that have shown up in the Featured rooms over and over even though I hadn't touched them for quite a while; now they're not on there even though I actually DID make changes this week...maybe there's hope...

Wow, hard to believe all the response! I am still feeling a little disappointed, maybe it's because I was satisfied with the explaination at first, but now it doesn't seem to make sense to me. I have viewed the Featured Rooms from time to time since I wrote in on this matter and there seems to be alot of new people featured. If adding new items make a difference, I add new items very often. I had a very unique Halloween Room, ( not to bring up old issues, only way I know how to explain) and was so excited to see so many featured for that holiday, I was sure mine had to be there. It wasn't just the regular people, it was a big variety of old and new members. My heart sunk when I realized mine wasn't included. I move things around all the time. I do the same things other's are saying puts their room on and I'm not there still. I don't know. No I haven't put any of my rooms in the new Showcase forums, Don't really know if I should. I don't know what else to say.

I know there is an internal glitch(explained many times somewhere here in the forum) with some of the same rooms being on featured as they have been on there almost since I 1st discovered the hotel 1 day awhile back.
And if you have ever noticed at the bottom of the forum page is the number of registered players currently on here .
(online users have posted in the forum the 'registered have not...yet.We all are registered)
And that's alotta hotel rooms! Some(or maybe alot)don't know about their hotel room yet,but for those that do there are alot of them!

At this writing there are approximately 5,700 people on iWin.

I have a theory - and it is very much my own theory (I have no access to the iWin software technicians who may or may not be working on the featured rooms issues!!!). However, once upon a time not long ago, I decorated a room and lo and behold, it was featured and the first to appear on the featured rooms and recently updated. Hallelujah! And as it gradually became further and further away from the top spot, I wondered what got me there in the first place. Maybe it had something to do with spending 10,000 all at once on the room. And then, later, when I decided to "tweak" the room and added 5,000 (two people pals), viola! it popped to number 1 again. Then again it slowing moved further and further away from number one. Then one day I tweaked it by 1,500 and boing!!! it popped to number one again, but alas it slowly dropped off the list, and though I have tweaked the room again and again (but not spending more than 500 or 600), no luck, it wouldn't move up again. So I tried to figure out how somebody's room continues to appear time and time again, with the confession that they didn't do any tweaking. There was another theory thrown out there that if there is an "expensive" room that made it to the featured rooms, that tweaking it or any other room would pop up the rooms to the featured rooms, although that didn't work for me. And then, of course, there are the guests that have multiple appearances, one after the other, on the recently updated, with the guest admitting she did no serious tweaking of any of the rooms. I tried creating a completely new room, spent about 7,000 opals all at once on the new room and -- nothing. (sigh......................)

So I am not sure what needs to happen, whether it was a fluke, or what it was. All I know is that it happened and what it took to happen. I would be really interested if anybody creates the same type of situation, spending the same number of opals, upgrades with more opals, to see what happens. Although I would imagine that most guests wouldn't want to spend 10,000 to 20,000 opals just to see if it worked. I have to agree that the main compulsion we all have to decorate our rooms is so that others can see them, and that would be the point of it, wouldn't it?. We do have our place in the forums with the showcases. Wouldn't it be fun if we could have thumbnail avatars in the forums all in one post so we could click and view the rooms just like we do when we see the rooms under the "recently updated" or "most opals spent today" etc. I put it in the suggestion box but considering the extraordinary software changes that would need to occur, I don't think it is going to get on anybody's list, especially when the situation regarding the featured rooms issue is, I am guessing, on the list of things to do, in bold, underlined, and with a bullet.

I can only say how it has been working for me. Any room that I have created that is worth over 10,000 opals and has a couple of pets/people in it, goes on featured. It moves back to the #1 spot any time I make a change on it.

However, I get bored seeing even MY own rooms on there too long, so I remove the extra pets/people from the room after a few weeks, and presto, it drops off featured.

Works every time.

Hmmmm - that must be the key - when I spent 10,000, there were people/pets involved, and when I added pets/people for another 5,000 so . . you just might have something there kblue!

I think all my pets are what keeps me on to. When I first started I had the pets limit in about every room. Simply because dogs are a part of my life and who I am. My rooms to me just don't look right without them. Plus they are a good filler. But think about it. 5 dogs is 7,500 opals alone. It doesn't take a lot more to go over 10,000. Now many of my rooms don't have that, but they were already on there, so they stayed. I have always thought the amount of opals had a lot to do with it, even though they are not supposed to.

I wonder about that too lata cuz my 15 min of featured room fame came from my most expensive room/item and 'big spender'(on all those pots! ) on the 7th floor when I built the 'pot rocket' & had bought my spacesuit. hmmmm

Exactly, and I've stated this before. The ONLY thing that sets iWin apart from other game sites is the hotel. But what was once a very enjoyable activity and an outlet for creativity has become stale and frustrating for many. Without this singular distinction, iWin is just another game site, and there is no reason to stay.
