I have been somewhat put out with the hotel for a while now. But tonight is the final straw. I have spent a ton of opals on this one particular room as to what I wanted to do. Then in the middle of it all I get a message that I cannot add any more objects. The tree isn't even decorated yet. I have put up with the limit on pets. The trouble getting in my room. The elevator not working. Freezing up and numerous other glitches. But this is it. When they won't let me add what I want as far as objects. I QUIT.....This may be a glitch or not. At this point I really don't care. I will not be doing any more rooms. I AM DONE WITH THE HOTEL...!!!!!!!

Wow - this is something I didn't know - I left a message on your board - your room was beautiful. I knew there was a limit on pets/people but not objects. I'm thinking that with all the "bricks" and whatever the brown wall things you used tallied up a lot of objects but still . . . there sholuldn't be a limit - maybe the software can handle just so many objects in one room? That's what it looks like. I'm going to ask Customer Service about this as I've never heard of it. I'll let you know what I find out - Goofy

OK Goofy and thanks. But I am just tired of it all..Don't think I will be doing any more rooms, or spending any more money on opals. Rest of my rooms will just stay empty

ok, here is my deal.......i am still learning all the stuff you can do in the hotel, so....I decided to turn a room into a kitchen, spent almost 10,000 opals on it. Everything was great. It was beautiful! Then the next day got back into my hotel and my entire kitchen was gone. My opals never returned so I knew that I really did buy all the stuff for the kitchen, but they are no where to be found. Not in storage either. Any ideas?

I had that happen once. But when others went to the room, everything was there. Have you tried having someone else go to the room and see if your kitchen is there.? Eventually mine returned to normal. But if it doesn't you need to file a ticket with customer support. maybe one of the mods has an idea

I just popped in your 6th floor, you have a beautiful kitchen

I also checked your kitchen - it is indeed there. I don't know just how much you spent and whether it contains all the items you put in it, but it is coming up to others who view it.

This situation has to do with the amount of memory allocated on the iWin servers per user AND how much memory is available on the average computer both virtual and physical. This applies to everyone who has elected to decorate rooms in the hotel. There is only so much room available for data whether it be on iWin's servers or our computers; it is not infinite.

When the hotel came online, each user was most likely given a set block of memory on the iWin servers allocated for decorating our rooms from the 1st floor to the 26th. This set allocation was determined by testing room capacities based on the hotel's performance and the average amount of memory available on the average user's computer. There came a point when all 26 rooms were furnished that the hotel began to fail performance wise. For example, elevator doors won't open & close, animated objects stopped moving, items could no longer be put into or taken out of storage, the average computer would freeze or produce an error message of not enough memory, etc. This critical juncture determined the maximum number of bytes of memory that could be used for each room so the hotel would operate correctly and the user's computer would not crash. Which translates to only X byte amount of objects can exist in any room.

So this whole scenario is a more about preventing our computers from crashing then iWin denying us unlimited memory space on their servers. When a user goes to their rooms and visits each floor they've decorated, the data for those rooms gets stored on their computers. If the user has 26 floors of decorated rooms, that's a lot of memory used up in RAM & hard disk space in the paging file. No one's computer has an unlimited amount of memory storage, not even NASA. There may be other factors playing into this limitation such as the application itself is only capable of handling so many bytes of data, the server capacity may have been misjudged due to the wild popularity of the hotel, any number of things could also be part of this equation.

Yes, it's disheartening when you've worked so hard on a project only to find out some of it cannot be fulfilled. I think we've all run across situations in our lives when what we wanted isn't necessarily what we got. I'm particularly sorry this limitation was the straw that broke the camel's back for you. It really is a shame because you created some incredible rooms for us to enjoy and they're gone now along with you. I'm now at a loss for words.

Thanks for the explanation Marybeth. It just got to where due to all the things mentioned above not working and so forth, that this was indeed the final straw for me. I started this for relaxation and fun. It has turned into frustration with things not working right and so forth. it has just gotten to the point that it is no longer fun, but pure frustration for me. While this one incident might not have been so major in and of itself, it was the final straw for me with all the other problems involved. I have enough frustration in my real life. I don't need anymore. Then Goofy more or less chewing me out was indeed the absolute final straw. That is when I decided to just clear out my rooms and quit the hotel for good. I to am sorry. I enjoyed the hotel. But many things on here have turned it into frustration rather than fun. It is just time for me to leave the hotel and go back to just playing games

I did notice after deleting my rooms and many of my items in storage everything seems to be working better. Guess iwin just did not plan on people getting so creative.

I'm glad to hear that you will still be around, even if not like before. We have lost so many people from the original gang already I really hate to see anyone else leave. I hope you have Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year.

I have received a response to my ticket regarding Lata's problem with her hotel. The information I got from Customer Service/Markus - the maximum number of items you can place in one room is two hundred and fifty-six (256). This is probably due to the anticipated number of items one may place in a room times the number of rooms divided by the amount of memory it takes to completely furnish all 26 floors of the hotel. Er go, 256 was used as the limit per room times 26 rooms in determining how much memory to dedicate to each hotel. I don't think iWin anticipated very many people exceeding 256 items in one room. Thanks - Goofy

Thanks for the explanation. I am sure they didn't either, nor did they plan on people getting so creative. But creativity and originality is the fun of it.

Being soo creative myself I found out about this "problem" months ago, that you can only put a certian amount of items into a room, hence my patio that I created back in June has gaps under certain items of furniture. I had to take bricks out, but no big deal ! I thought it would be down to what has been explained here already !
.
Cheers

I am now at my final straw! The wheel keeps giving me zero's, I haven't played a game since yesterday and the sign "you reached your opal limit" keeps coming up, and there are no good games to buy lately. I am here for the Hotel (which I love), but if I can't earn opals.... then I may as well go back to the other site.

Thanks for letting me rant. I am so frustrated right now.

I know how you feel. I have nearly quit the hotel. I doubt all my rooms will ever be full again nor am I going to try. I haven't I been buying or playing any games. It has just gotten to frustrating to be fun. Opals are to hard to get and to slow in coming. I used to love the hotel, but it just isn't worth the frustration of trying to get enough opals to do anything.

If you recall in the beginning, there were so many things missing -- cabinets, sinks, curtains, dining tables & chairs -- and the list goes on. We had to get "creative" right from jump fabricating those items from available objects as I did with speaker backs for my kitchen cabinets. We have become so used to using objects in nonconventional ways that even when those missing pieces are in the hotel store, we continue to stretch the boundaries by using those new objects in new & creative ways, such as Mimi's - Hartoglass - experimentation with creating the optical illusion of expanded rooms and multilevel spaces. I'm forever in her debt for helping me think outside the box with her cleverness as many others here are, too. I believe everyone here at one time or another used items for other than their intended purpose.

Smaller objects are what pose the greatest challenge memory-wise like the bricks, glass blocks, flowers & pots and they use up even more memory if they are "flippable". In reality, you have actually bought two 2D items if you can flip them. If you notice their mirror image or flip side is shaded differently, so their value in bytes is greater than an object which does not flip. Most likely the latest personal computers can handle all that data but older models like mine would crash if I tried to put 256 objects on each floor.

The fact is iWin did do extensive testing if they could actually give you a max number of items. What would have been helpful is if that number were published in the Knowledge Base documentation for the hotel. I don't think they believed we would use so many items in one room....well.....Surprise, a few folks did. The bottom line, there still is no other game site with a building to furnish with an interior messaging system and personal avatar so Hotel iWin is a first and in being first, there will be snags in the software & semi-limited functionality until all the data can be assessed from how much space this utility takes up on the server to how the user percieves its successes and failures. We were the guinea pigs through the growing pains of Hotel iWin Beta and hopefully our input will help the next generation hotel or building be even more successful. (Forever the optimist.)

Everything you say makes sense and I understand that iwin most likely never expected the hotel to be the success it is. Nor did they expect that 256 items would ever be put in a single room. It isn't just that one little incident which has turned off my enthusiasm for the hotel. It is numerous other things as well. Latest being accused of using anothers ideas and claiming them for my own (which I did NOT do). Course this pettiness is not iwin's fault..lol. Anyway hopefully iwin will get it all worked out, It is a great site, and offers more than any other if all the bugs would go away and opals were easier to get. But who knows, maybe all in due time. I hope so. I have to much invested in games and so forth to totally quit. But doubt I will ever be as involved as I was.

Thank You Marybeth for the lengthy explanation. Your efforts are appreciated

You have got to be kidding...someone accused you of stealing their designs????? That is preposterous!!! We have limited selections in almost every category because the hotel is not even a year old, so for people to come up with the same ideas is not a stretch of the imagination. The odds for that happening here are greater than the odds for the majority of us to catch the H1N1 swine flu.

It's the pettiness that ruins this experience for everyone. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery so if you see some of your unique object collections in someone elses room, you can say to yourself, wow, it must have been pretty good if someone copied it or gee, we must think alike or have the same taste. I've had people ask me if they could use something they liked in my rooms and I say by all means because even though we may have created the illusion, it all belongs to iWin - got to read that dern fine print. I think you made a good choice by staying and not letting someone or something ruin your fun.

I have had my room stop working ,when i have bought stuff, and had to close out my screen come back, and finish my item buying, then after so many i would have to do the same thing again. I have a friend that is having trouble getting into jq online party, she isn't getting any help from iwin. It seems that my friend mummy38,can't play in any of the rooms, and now can't even get into jq. I don't understand why we pay a monthly fee to have this iwin manager, and they always say in a reply(when u get one) For us to clear our q,then reload,we are not the one's who have made these games,i also have problems on the floors when i buy something it dissapears behind walls,or the counters, and my room is just about done, and i am not going to go fishing for them,so then have to spend more opals for the dissapearing items.

i wrote to coustomer service complaing about something that really bugs me. it seems as though most of the rooms featured, a lot of them are the same people and they keep them on there for weeks. i have seen rooms where the room is not even decorated and the figure is in their underwear, nobody wants to see that, i have
looked around other floors and saw some awesome rooms why aren't they featured they should change their guide lines for featuring rooms. thanks for letting me sound off.

i know there is a limit on items in a rm because i did a brick patio w/ ocean bckgrnd & i think i can only add 1 more item 2 my rm. good thing i was done w/ the brickwork. i had furniture i bought disappear & wrote a ticket to iwin. i told them i don't spend my money only to have my items i buy disappear. after much communication i finally had to tell them each item i lost & the amount. they gave me the opals. it was frustrating to say the least but they fixed it. one good thing is at least the counters & cupboards don't move anymore. lol

I think lata and rushann should quit the game and open a design studio in REAL LIFE. I would be their first client. Their rooms are amazing. I admire their talent and artistic eyes.

Aloha,
Sandy

p.s. Don't really quit! Yikes, where would I go for inspiration?
