I'd love to see Junior win a couple. Or even just one. This is a #14 household, but Junior has been racing smart and deserves a win. Also, as a card-carrying geriatric, I have a soft spot in my heart for Mark Martin. There's lots of good folks in the field.

I agree, Grid, should b a great season.

I met Kasey Kahne when he was a rookie, got his autograph too. They came out to th local casino when it was 1st taken over by Harrah's. I've co-incidentally bn to Enumclaw Wa as well, lovely little forest town. Saw th Scottish Games there.

Anyway~c'mon February ! ! ! Go Stewart/Hass ! ! ! ah, that includes Danica, huh? Must hav s/thing if Tony's taking her under his wing~~th other day she said that now she has fenders & knows how to use 'em . She's done pretty well w "th good 'ol boys" so far so Go Danica as well.

hmmmm~even tho Fontana sucks, trackwise, it's a thought...Sonoma's a good track lotsa different drivers on road courses altho there's so much crossover with drivers anymore it's getting to be moot~Danica's a good example. PERsonally, I think she has done better representing than JPM......I'm just sayin'.......

AH MAAAANNNNNNNNN what a bummer~Smoke was sooo close but that was a perfect miove that "Wild Thing" formerly Rowdy made for the win & th MILLION bucks.

They say ya never remember who came in 2nd in th Bud Shootout~I think I'll remember this one~

Oh, NASCAR....., I'm thinking that driver-driver radio might b a good thing to re-instate. 2 of those wrecks 2nite were caused, in part, bc there was no communication between drivers~any comments??

That driving deserves some respect, and I don't even like Shrub.

Sorry Tony... pity that Kurt couldn't win it, I think his team needs the money.

P.S. Which would you rather have? Close like the Chase results last year or close like the finish tonight? Think how Poor Carl felt.

GIANT KUDOS FOR DANICA

After that shocking impact wreck Thursday in the Duals she not only got back in a race car~DW says most guys would take a few days off but QUALIFIED FOR THE POLE in the 1st Nationwide Series Race @ Daytona.

Even my good ol' boy biker hubby had to give a nod to her for that.

DW is full of it, those guys run with 104 fevers and gushing at both ends - well, at least for the minimum # of laps before they hand off to a backup driver, LOL. She said her size helped, I guess she's snugged down in that seat and HANS device pretty good. I worried more abt Jeff Gordon than I worried abt Danica in that qualifying run. He's going to be a cripple when he gets older, with spine arthritis, that's my guess at least.

EEEWWWWW that was awful for just about everyone but th new Mrs Buescher~
Danica certainly got ***edited for language*** & by her own rookie teammate~~she can swear like a man anyway~~
not quite sure what happened there @ th end of th Nationwide but something sure did~~but that's DAYTONA~~

And tomorrow th real race begins~~

Congrats to Mr Kenseth tho he should hav an asterisk but that's an editorial comment so.....On to Phoenix & a little less drama~I hope. Still a long season ahead of us~I'll stick with Stewart.

Did I say less drama it's hard to compete when equipment takes a powder~doesn't matter if it was manufacturer defect or not the outcome was the same~~~~22nd ! ! !

So off to Las Vegas~it's all it's cracked up to be~crazy town anyway but they give NASCAR free rein & those boys know how to make use of it not uncommon for a team to hav a $60,000 to $80,000 hotel bill I want some ..............

Ya, I'm concerned re: Eric McClure, though. still, w/o SAFER barriers and the HANS device I'm not sure we'd have him around to be concerned about. Last thing I read was "overnight observaton" which could mean anything but I hope it's good news.

Talledega's not my favorite track, but I'll be watching as I grade papers.

POCONO th Tricky Triangle & new paving to boot but how about those new timing line placements how ruuuuuuuude

Not a bad race~I watched all of it for a change. Smoke came up from th middle of th pack to finish 3rd. Better'n th last few races anyway.

Woulda like to have seen Jr win & especially Mark Martin but it looks like MR LOGANO has learned how to effectively use the chrome horn. Where ever could he have learned that little maneuver

&, while I have the floor, witness, please, the self-destruction of the OTHER Busch brother Talent notwithstanding, those 2 boys have got an anger management problem BIG TIME........Kurt, honey, are you hell-bent on ending your career? Get some help, like you said you were gonna do when Finch hired you. Man, if you can't get along there, on a handshake contract........& if you can't get it together NASCAR will take care of it for you. Ask your brother he can tell ya.

Couldn't agree more except that this wasn't Jr.'s race. I would have been thrilled with either Tony or Mark winning, with maybe an edge to Mark because surely seven 2nd place finishes should equal a win? I was at a meeting during the whole race but when I heard Mark came in second, I said, "Again?" Tony's still my driver but I do like Mark Martin.

Still, it was time for Joey to win a race. He's a talented kid and a lot nicer than a certain pair of brothers. So congrats to Mr. Logano. Pole to checkered flag (with a few variations, I assume - I only know the start and the finish right now, but have it recorded).

I've been home from Charlotte for a while now but flying cross country is time travel for me and I'm just now almost recovered from jet lag. I'll have some comments about the race experience soon. THAT was the one I wanted Jr. to win, but judging from the crowd reaction (including me) when he edged into first for a few seconds on the backstretch at Charlotte, I'm sure glad I wasn't there a year ago when he ran out of gas on the last lap. The emotion for Jr. in that venue is SO thick - I'm glad I'm wasn't there, that's all.

& Smoke finishing 2nd is a good thing. I'm sure he's happy for th boy

Next week Infineon up in the California wine country let's see, who do we know that lives up there Oh, yeah, GRIDDLEBONE Enjoy, girl, enjoy

YAY SMOKE

Ya gotta admit that Daytona is an exciting track~tandem racing, as opposed to pack racing, is th way to win there~Just ask last night's winner~~need I say it? ok... TONY STEWART who his favorite driver was the answer, Enumclaw Wa 's favorite son, KASEY KAHNE.

I could yak on about th race, th Nationwide Friday nite as well, but if ur on this post then chances are you saw that exciting 250 miles.

I do want to give a giant jumping up & down, screaming like a fan YAY JUNIOR to th Intimidator's (Dale Earnhartd SR, to anyone who just stumbled onto this subject) little boy. This could very well be th year that Jr wins th Cup~he's bn right up there th last several races & woulda bn top 5 last nite but for th tiny little fender-bender there @ th end. C'mon Junebug ! ! !

& speaking of fender-benders...can we get a gentle hug for Danica~~you KNOW that had to hurt. & did u see th steering wheel & column shoot straight up to th roof??? DW made ref to her raising her hands up to protect her face, but that happened to b th safest place to put em @ that moment considering, had she kept her grip firmly on the wheel, like 5-time did w his inner-wall wreck last nite (which I consider to hav bn a lesser hit), she probably woulda had some serious breakage~wrists, elbows, shoulders...OWWW That's th 3 hard hit she's taken this yr....that girl's got brass ones for sure. & BTW she led a ton of laps & damn well coulda won that thing. She's gonna win one of these days, she's sure paying her dues & gaining respect from th "good-ol-boys"

So, next week they're off to Louden New Hampshire~~gorgeous country up there. Wonderful little bike run up there too, Laconia, as long as it doesn't rain........

Compare yesterday's race to the one I saw in Charlotte. No, wait, there is no comparison. I only saw the last 16 laps of the Daytona race on TV (plus replays), and it was STILL better than all 400 laps of the Charlotte race. Way better.

I'm not normally a Kasey Kahne fan but I was sorry he got such a bum ticket after helping Tony so much. And I've been more friendly to Jeff Gordon lately but not so sure after yesterday's pit road mishap. Did you see that NASCAR official jump the barrier to get out of the way? OUTSTANDING. The guy must have done hurdles at some time. I can't post the video but I went to the NASCAR site and searched for "Gordon Newman pit road" and found it. If you're watching, look at the front tire man for the #2. He got knocked down and rolled to the back of the car but was okay. It could have been much worse.

All in all, a good race. Our guy won, nobody got hurt, a whole lotta metal got bent, and Sam Hornish Jr. got a ride for the day. That's a whole 'nother story!

Susweka wrote:DW made ref to (Danica) raising her hands up to protect her face, but that happened to b th safest place to put em @ that moment considering

Patrick has talked about this before, DW must not have been listening. She said she learned to do that in open wheel racing, it's not to "protect her face" or anything like that but as you said, to protect her hands, wrists, forearms and elbows. At that point, the car is going to do what it's going to do. There's an optimal point where "drive 'er til she stops" flips over to "ride it out relaxed".

P.S. I'm answering your post now because you edited it to include some content after I posted mine, lol. I wouldn't cry over a Jr. Cup win, that's for sure. He's the soul of consistency, and he even looked happy last night despite the unfortunate (for him and others, not for Tony) round of bumper cars in the last lap. I think Jr has found his rhythm, and it's nothing like his dad's. He's in a good place and the results speak for themselves.

I think an argument might be made for Richard Petty as far as being the best goes. No 2 ways about Dale being "the Intimidator" . They used th chrome horn in those days & he was the master there.

& 5-time cannot be left off the list of best~nobody else had won 5 Championships, much less in consecutive years.

Jr is a good driver but not the most talented out there & he'd better get on with gettin it too~there are some extremely talented, & well backed, young guys in his mirror.

I loved going to the races in the "old" days. Richard Petty was a force on and off the track but always a gentleman. The drivers were glad to give you a smile and nod. Even an autograph wasn't an imposition. Although I still love Nascar and we travel to races and watch from home too, it seems as though big money has taken some of the heart out of the game.

Drivers like Montoya would not have even thought of Nascar if it wasn't for the money. Maybe that is why so many fans dislike his racing? Families like the Petties and the Earnharts, the Bakers, ect, didn't race to get rich. They raced because it was their passion.

Go check out a short track near your home on a Friday or Saturday night. You can still feel all that passion Thfor racing.

Absolutely agree about short track and dirt track racing. But don't kid yourself - the big racing families LOVE the sport, but they don't mind the money.

I think in the end, the teams are all about technological advances and making things work within the rules (and restriction plates) that are thrown at them. They grouse about the changes too. But the fun of it is to figure out how to win.

The NASCAR corporation, on the other hand, is Big Business. They need to figure out how to fill seats, increase concession sales, keep the team owners happy, etc. etc. The drivers and crew are the playing cards in this game; they aren't really seated at the table. If that's what you don't like, I hear ya.

The races "in the old days" for me started n 1966 when I was 1st going w 1st hubby who was a less than stellar or talented sprint car owner/driver. Home track was Cajon Speedway n El Cajon Ca~long since gone we raced every w/end & tracks included Irwindale, Phoenix, El Centro fairgrounds & Ascot Raceway, also now gone. It was good racing but nobody ever really was good enuf to go on to th Big Show. & I don't remember much talk of sponsers being there to start a driver upward.

Flash forward to the racing world of today...most of these kids driving now started @ 6 racing go-karts & they race with the kids of racers, know the drivers & respect them, learn from them &, oh yeah, are noticed by NASCAR & ta-da SPONSERS. They then go on to their home tracks, which NASCAR definately keeps an eye on. I'm not complaining, the young drivers are encouraged by fame & fortune, not to mention the true thrill of racing & winning & the young guns keep the sport alive.

A word about JPM~u know WHY he was brought over to NASCAR don't you? NOT for th money but to interest an untapped money source, the Latino fan. Hey....could that be why they curried a decent female driver? Doesn't hurt that she's a beautiful creature who cleans up REALLY nice.

NASCAR & nepotism seem to be almost synanomous (ooh such terrible spelling pardonez moi ) But really, the average person just can't step in & have a career driving in circles for lots & lots & lots of $$$ 5-time made a cool 21 million last yr ~~yep BIG BUSINESS
